Key Changes to B.Tech Internship Regulations

The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) in India has revised its regulations for B.Tech internships, effective June 27, 2023. Key changes include:

  • Eligibility: Minimum CGPA of 6.0, no active backlogs, and no pending disciplinary actions.
  • Duration: 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Stipend: Paid internships must offer a minimum of Rs. 5,000 per month; exceptions are made for unpaid internships at specific prestigious organizations (Maharatna, Navratna, Miniratna CPSEs; institutions of national importance; DST, CSIR, and DBT labs; ISRO, DRDO, BARC, HAL, and TIFR).
  • Process: Students must submit offer letters and a synopsis of their proposed work at least one month before the internship's commencement. The college-level IQAC will review applications.
  • Attendance: 90% attendance is required; online/special classes are to be arranged for students on internship.
  • Reporting: Students must maintain an internship diary, submit weekly reports, and submit a final report, certificate, supervisor feedback, and stipend proof upon completion.

Unpaid Internship Exceptions

Unpaid internships may be considered for students participating in programs at prestigious organizations like:

  • Maharatna, Navratna & Miniratna CPSEs
  • Institutions of national importance
  • DST, CSIR, and DBT laboratories
  • ISRO, DRDO, BARC, HAL, and TIFR

These will be considered on a case-by-case basis, requiring additional scrutiny.

Overall, the revised regulations aim to improve the quality and structure of B.Tech internships at KTU.
