Brazilian federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) ended his eight-day hunger strike following an agreement with Chamber President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). The agreement grants Braga at least sixty days to defend his mandate before the chamber votes on his potential expulsion.
Braga's hunger strike began on April 9th, after the Chamber's Ethics Council recommended his expulsion. During this period, he consumed only water, serum, and isotonic drinks, resulting in a five-kilogram weight loss. He will follow a medical protocol for a gradual return to normal eating habits.
Before announcing the end of his strike, Braga consulted with approximately thirty supporters, including Minister of Racial Equality Anielle Franco, in a public forum before ending his hunger strike.
