Ask almost anyone in Nigeria and they will tell you that they know someone who knows someone who has been trafficked. Human trafficking in Nigeria is pervasive. It happens to thousands inside and outside Nigeria every year.
Until Dubai suspended its tourist visa scheme in 2022, the UAE was a trafficking hot-spot for Nigerians. Upon arrival, traffickers took the passports and phones of women, and forced them into prostitution. One charity estimates up to 20,000 women could be stuck like this.
