The man who died at Sugarloaf Mountain over the weekend has been identified.

Kendall Willard, 63, of Kingfield died Saturday at the ski resort in the Carrabassett Valley, according to Lindsey Chasteen, a spokesperson for the Maine medical examiner’s office.

Chasteen said Tuesday morning that the medical examiner’s office isn’t releasing any additional details from its findings until Willard’s family “has an opportunity to process the OCME findings.”

Willard died in an accident about 9 a.m. Saturday. Carrabassett Valley Police Chief Mark Lopez told ABC affiliate WMTW that Willard had dropped something from the chair lift, and when he went to get the item, he ended up on a trail closed due to ice.

Lopez said that Willard walked down the trail, slipped and slid into trees, according to WMTW.

No additional information was immediately available.
