On paper, you would think the PS4's library would be cheaper in comparison to systems decades older. That assessment would be incorrect as the PS4 surprisingly outdoes many older systems in terms of how jacked-up game prices can be. This is primarily due to one key factor: The switch to online shopping.

Related These are the greatest stories you can consume on the PlayStation 4.

While physical shopping has its issues with rarity, online shopping is a whole different ballpark. With tons of limited releases on oddball storefronts, most of the rarest games on the system were sold this way. If you were one of the lucky ones who managed to snag these, you got more than you bargained for.

All values are based on PriceCharting's complete price at the time of writing.

10 Titanfall 2 Collector's Edition - $600

Flopped Games Can Be Expensive

One of the most acclaimed FPS games in recent memory has to be Titanfall 2. Its campaign was lauded by both critics and fans alike, but unfortunately, it was launched at a bad time with tons of more anticipated games. Titanfall 2 underperformed, which is perhaps why its $250 Collector's Edition is so expensive now.

That was the original MSRP, and if you picked one back then, you'd gain $350 with its current asking price. You get a sweet-looking helmet in a package that diehard fans will want to seek out. Luckily, this Collector's Edition wasn't sold on any weird online storefront, or else the price would be much higher than $600.

9 Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Juggernog Edition - $647

A Treat For Any Zombies Player

Call of Duty has a knack for prestigious collector's editions that often come with real tactical equipment like Night Vision Goggles, a Drone, or a little RC Car with a mounted camera. Black Ops 3 did something different but equally prestigious. You got a mini fridge resembling the Juggernog machine from COD Zombies.

This is cool by itself, but keep in mind that Black Ops 3 is the Zombie game of the franchise. The best Zombies mode comes from Black Ops 3, and most people playing the title today are doing so for Zombies. The mini fridge is a perfect companion piece for its players. There's quite a bit of demand from hardcore Zombies fans, and that's probably why this edition's so expensive.

8 Tamashii - $650

The Rarest Limited Run Game On The Console

A lot of titles get physical releases due to Limited Run Games. The company allows so many games that would usually be digital-only to be preserved this way, and that's awesome. However, because of the limited runs, you should expect their releases to rise in price over time.

Normally, the prices will get close to $100 or sometimes a few hundred. Tamashii, on the other hand, costs a whopping $650. That's ridiculous for a Limited Run game. It's a shame, too, because Tamashii is a phenomenal indie horror title. If you're a big fan, you'll just have to accept it missing on your shelf.

7 Nier: Automata Collector's Edition - $694

The Square Enix Store Rears Its Ugly Head

For a long time, nobody seemed to take advantage of the truly cool stuff on offer through the Square Enix online store. Brand new PS1 and PS2 games were being sold there for a while until word finally got out. This would explain the rarity of Nier: Automata Collector's Edition.

Related The PlayStation 4 was no stranger to good RPGs. Here are our favorites.

This product wasn't originally sold on Amazon, Walmart, or places like that. Instead, you had to purchase it through the Square Enix store. Many didn't pick this up, likely because they didn't know it even existed. The Collector's Edition itself is nice, with a soundtrack and a 2B figurine. However, it's not worth the price, and if you want a 2B figure, there's plenty of other options.

6 1001 Spikes - $718

A Truly Rare Physical Game

1001 Spikes is an oddball throughout the PS4 library because it was never actually launched physically. It was supposed to, but never got officially sold to customers. Why can you buy it then?

Well, it's due to promo copies sent to Sony that ended up going into the hands of people willing to take the risk of selling them for a profit. Publisher Nicalis wasn't too happy about this, but what did they expect? If you give individuals rare stuff, and it's not company-owned, they're going to sell it for some hard dough.

5 NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Edition - $769

A Con Exclusive

Comic-Con exclusives are a well-known and common variant you'll often see in the action figure world. The NBA 2K19 Travis Scott Edition is the video game equivalent. Instead of Comic-Con, though, these were distributed at ComplexCon 2018 in Long Beach, California.

No massive lines here, as the copies were giveaways, leaving it up to sheer luck on whether you would get one. With how rare the game is, along with demand from music fans, this would be the most expensive game on most other systems. It's not even on the top echelon of PS4 games, however.

4 Assassin's Creed Origins Dawn Of The Creed Legendary Edition - $838

A High-Value Item, Then And Now

Most expensive games start at a normal price and gradually increase in value over time. That is not the case with the Legendary Edition of Assassin's Creed Origins. Starting at $800 MSRP, it was a high-value item to begin with.

To boot, it was sold exclusively on the Ubisoft Store, making the item not as visible to customers. You get quite a lot of goodies inside that'll make fans happy, but strangely, this product has not seen a big increase in value. Origins is one of the best instalments in the series, so you'd think the demand would be higher.

3 Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster Collection Anniversary Edition - $906

The Square Enix Store Strikes Back

A weird and unique situation occurred with the physical PS4 release of Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster Collection. It was sold through two online storefronts: the Square Enix store and the much more used Playasia. Copies sold out incredibly fast on the Square Enix front, but at least Playasia was another option.

Related Every single one of these PS4 games is a must-play.

However, the Asian English release on PS4 was cancelled. This meant only Square Enix store buyers would end up getting the game. Even the regular version on PS4 is worth hundreds, but the Anniversary Edition is nearing a grand. If you managed to snag one up, you profited big time.

2 Poop Slinger - $976

The Holy Grail Of The System

The most well-known rare PS4 game is Poop Slinger, and it has quite a fascinating story. Like most of the PS4's rarest games, it was sold through an online storefront, but Poop Slinger had the oddest yet. Limited Rare Games just sounded like a knockoff brand to Limited Run, and combined with the sketchy-looking storefront, this product was giving off all sorts of red flags.

It went on sale on April Fools Day, too. Everyone thought this a joke or a scam, or both. The actual April Fools Day joke was that this was real all along. Only 84 copies were sold, understandably, and those who got it earned themselves one hell of a payday.

1 Gravel Porsche Rally Pack - $1,538

The Hidden Rare Game

Despite Poop Slinger being called the rarest PS4 game by many outlets, PriceCharting does list one higher-priced title. That game is Gravel Porsche Rally Pack. Gravel is a game you probably never heard of, but one variant's worth a ton of hard cash.

The Porsche Rally Pack was the pre-order bonus, and unlike most others, the case changed accordingly. With how obscure the game is, the product's understandably expensive, but $1,500 is ludicrous. There has to be something else that would make a game this valuable. The Porsche Rally Pack variant still hasn't been deep-dived by collector enthusiasts, so the mystery's still out there.

Next Zooming around circuits on your PS4, racing games become a symphony of tire screeches and turbocharged dreams.
