State police are investigating a suspected homicide in Loyalsock Township, they said in a press release Sunday afternoon.

The deceased, 52-year-old Shannon Bowes, of Pennsylvania, was discovered around 10 a.m. Sunday, when police responded to the Liberty Lodge, 2021 E. Third St. in Loyalsock Township, for a welfare check of a patron, the release said.

“Upon arrival, it was determined that an altercation occurred between two hotel residents. During that altercation there was a fatal stabbing,” according to the press release.

Robert Bohart, 46, of New York, was charged with criminal homicide and arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, who denied bail.

Bohart was subsequently jailed at the Lycoming County Prison.

“The victim and actor were in nearby rooms and unknown to each other otherwise. After an unknown cause, the actor assaulted and fatally stabbed the victim,” a state police press

The Lycoming County Coroner’s Office was requested by state police to the Liberty Lodge in Loyalsock Township for the death of 53-year-old Shannon Bowes who was found deceased in his room where he was stabbed. Bowes was a resident at the hotel, Coroner Charles E. Kiessling said.

An autopsy is being scheduled on Tuesday. The investigation continues by state police and the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office.
