An officer took a walk-in complaint March 14 in reference to fraud.

A female stated that on Feb. 14 a man called looking to buy investment property. They agreed on a property and a price for a place in West Plans, she said.

The suspect asked her to write up the offer and mail it to him to an address in Arizona that he provided.

The woman stated that they talked about the funding and the suspect stated that he could wire it to her.

She told the officer he sent what she thought was a wire and then called her after she received it into her business account. He claimed he had looked over the offer and did not like the way it read.

The woman said that she tried to discuss his concerns, but he told her he wanted his money returned to him and his financial institution. He provided the address and told her to “keep the extra that was left” for her time and mail expenses. The woman stated that she went to the bank on Feb. 24 and got a cashier’s check. She mailed it to the name and place the suspect provided.

She got a phone call from Southern Bank a few days later and was informed that the transaction was identified as fraudulent activity, sent from a scammed account.

The woman said she was advised by her bank to make a police report.

Investigation continues pending identification of the suspect.

An officer was dispatched March 14 to East Locust Street in reference to a female being held against her will.

Upon arrival he spoke with two deputies who were given the call just a few minutes earlier.

The homeowner was present and stated that he did not know the missing female, but agreed to a search of the house.

No one was located.

Deputies are continuing to monitor the situation to determine if there has been a crime committed.

An officer was dispatched to the Walnut Street Boarding Home March 15 in reference to an unwanted person.

The reporting party stated that a male subject has been driving down the alley past the boarding home, she thinks, trying to catch his ex-girlfriend at work.

The officer advised that he could not keep the man from driving down the street or walking down the sidewalk. The woman stated he had been trespassed from the property by the owner.

The officer checked on the status of the protection order and was advised it has not yet been served. The reporting party was advised to call the department when the subject comes back so that the order can be served.

An officer was dispatched March 15 to Casey’s in reference to an employee finding a loose bag containing a white powdery substance.

Upon arrival, the officer took possession of the bag and told the clerk to advise a manager to check the surveillance camera when he or she comes to work to determine if an identification can be made.

An investigation is continuing.
