The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) in Japan reported on the planned rice cultivation area for fiscal year 2025 (令和7年産). The report highlighted a significant increase in the planned area for main-use rice.
The planned cultivation area for main-use rice is projected at 1,317,000 hectares, a 58,000-hectare increase compared to the previous year. 34 prefectures show an increasing trend, while only two show a decrease.
The planned area for reserve rice is 17,000 hectares, representing a decrease of 13,000 hectares compared to the previous year. Twenty prefectures show a decreasing trend.
The total planned cultivation area for rice (main-use and reserve) is 1,334,000 hectares. Based on the average yield, the expected production is 7.19 million tons, marking the largest production area in the past five years.
The planned area for rice for new market development (including export) remained stable. However, there was a decrease in the cultivation area for conventional processed rice, rice flour, and feed rice, as well as barley and soybeans.
23日、農林水産省は、令和7年産の水田における主食用米等の作付、意向戦略作物等（麦、大豆、米粉用米等）の作付意向について、第2回中間的取組状況(令和7年4月末時点)を取りまとめた。
水田農業に関して、産地・生産者が主体的に作付けを判断し、需要に応じた生産・販売を行うことができるよう、情報提供を行い、指標となる作付け面積は、その年に実際に植えた農地の広さを示すという。
各都道府県の主食用米等の作付意向(令和7年4月末時点)は、以下の通りである。
主食用米は131.7万ha(対前年差+5.8万ha)で34県が増加傾向にあり、11県が前年並み、減少傾向にあるのが2県のみだ。
備蓄米は1.7万haとなっており対前年の差は 1.3万ha減少し、2県が増加傾向にあり、減少傾向にあるのは20県で6県は前年並みとなった。
主食用米の作付意向は増加しており、備蓄米と合わせ133.4万haとなる。平年単収(539㎏/10a)で生産量を計算すると719万トンとなる。また過去5年で最大の生産面積となった。
また新市場開拓用米(輸出用米等)の作付面積は横ばい、従来の米粉や飼料用などの米は軒並み減少した。
従来の加工用米、米粉用、飼料用米などの各都道府県の戦略作物の作付意向は、減少し、麦や大豆の作付面積も減少した。
