A roundabout in Narbonne, France, originally named after archaeologist Maryse Sabrié, has been officially renamed to honor both Maryse and her late husband, Raymond Sabrié. The decision, made by the Narbonne municipality in November 2022, following Raymond Sabrié's death in January 2024, was celebrated on June 6th, 2025.
The couple's significant contributions to the archaeological understanding of Narbonne, particularly their work at the Clos de la Lombarde, and their research on the Roman Empire, prompted the city's tribute. The renaming ceremony was attended by the couple's daughters and a municipal representative.
The roundabout is now officially named "Rond-Point Maryse et Raymond Sabrié," a fitting tribute to this renowned couple.
Situé au bout de l’avenue Pierre Sémard, le rond-point Sabrié à Narbonne (Aude) a été officiellement inauguré. L’information a de quoi surprendre. Le giratoire a en réalité changé de nom. La ville a souhaité le faire de façon très solennelle ce vendredi 6 juin en fin de matinée.
La décision avait été prise par la municipalité en novembre 2022 à l’issue d’un conseil municipal. À l’origine, cet endroit avait été baptisé Maryse Sabrié, célèbre archéologue française ayant participé durant des années à des fouilles au sein du Clos de la Lombarde à Narbonne, avec son mari.
Cette décision marque la volonté de Bertrand Malquier, Maire de la ville et de la commune, de rendre hommage à un couple de passionnés, dont la contribution à l’archéologie locale, mais également à la connaissance de l’Empire romain, est absolument exceptionnelle.

C’est suite au décès de ce dernier, Raymond Sabrié, le lundi 8 janvier 2024 que la ville a acté le changement de nom du rond-point bien connu des Narbonnais.
La célébration a eu lieu vendredi 6 juin 2025 en présence des deux filles du couple d’archéologues et d’Yves Penet, élu municipal délégué à la culture. Le giratoire porte désormais le nom des deux chercheurs. Rond-Point Maryse et Raymond Sabrié. Un bel hommage.
