The caveat is that with the break in the rain, moderately warm air will help build the chance for popcorn showers to develop along the front as it passes through the afternoon. This can bring brief downpours to those who get caught up in a passing cell.
Rain can become heavy at times, with a few spots across New England seeing over an inch of rain, especially across Northern New England. Some backside showers will likely linger during the day on Sunday.
The clouds will tame temperatures a bit with Saturday highs reaching the low to mid-60s. A southerly breeze of about 15 miles per hour is likely with a few gusts to 20-30 miles an hour as the front passes.
Sunday turns a touch cooler as the back side of the storm will bring a northerly flow into the picture. Boston should see a mix of sun and clouds with highs stalling in the upper 50s or barely touching the 60s. There is a low chance for a Sunday morning sprinkle in the city, but most backside rain showers should be held to Northern New England on Sunday.
Greater Boston: Scattered showers Saturday morning with steady rain pushing in during the afternoon. Highs to the low and mid-60s. Rain likely between a half inch to an inch. Rain tapers off after sunset. Scattered showers lingering Sunday but a bit more stretches of dry periods and sun mixed in. Highs near 60.
Central/Western Mass.: Scattered showers Saturday morning with steady rain pushing in after noontime. Highs to the mid-60s. Seeing mostly cloudy skies on Sunday with a shower or two as highs reach the upper 50s, mid-50s for the Berkshires.
Southeastern Mass.: Seeing scattered showers Saturday morning with steady to heavy rain pushing in during the afternoon under overcast skies. Highs to the upper 50s and low 60s. A mix of clouds and sun on Sunday with a shower or two passing by. Highs to the upper 50s with a slight breeze.
Cape and Islands: Scattered showers to start on Saturday with steady rain entering the picture midafternoon. Highs stay in the mid-50s. A mix of sun and clouds on Sunday with a shower chance in the afternoon. Highs to the mid-50s with a breeze to 15 miles per hour, some gusts to 20 or higher.
Rhode Island: Pockets of showers Saturday during the morning with a swath of rain entering the region during the afternoon. Highs to the upper 50s and low 60s. Sunday brings mostly cloudy skies with some sun mixing in. A lower chance for a shower or two with a breeze between 10 to 15 mph.
New Hampshire: Scattered showers early Saturday morning building to pockets of steady to heavy rain during late morning and through the afternoon. If you have plans Saturday night, it’ll start to dry out after 8 p.m. Cooler on Sunday, highs to the low and mid-50s under mostly cloudy skies. A few light showers are possible during the day.
Vermont/Maine: Scattered showers Saturday morning with a couple of rounds of heavy rain during the afternoon. Vermont sees rain wrap up by sunset, with Maine seeing rainfall through the evening. Mostly cloudy on Sunday with highs only reaching the mid-50s. Scattered showers in Vermont with some steady, light rain in Maine.
