A Broughty Ferry restaurant owner has apologised for âgetting things wrongâ during a staffing shortage â but has hit back at a âvileâ Tripadvisor review about the business.
Kelly Fairweather, owner of Sol y Sombra Tapas Bar in Broughty Ferry, says staffing issues coupled with a âvery busyâ spell meant âthings went to potâ for the venue over the weekend.
She took to the restaurantâs Facebook to âclear the airâ with customers and vowed to take on board customer feedback.
However, Kelly also hit out at one review left on Tripadvisor about the restaurant â claiming the reviewer had lied about their visit.
Kelly â who also runs The Selkie in Dundee city centre and The Ferry Selkie â wrote: âWe absolutely did our best, but we got some things wrong and Iâm honestly sorry.
âThe team did their best, but with a perfect storm of a very busy tapas bar, short-staffed, and some new starts who have not yet been fully trained â this went to pot.
âFor the customers we messed up (for), I have tried to get in touch with everyone who either left a Tripadvisor or made the team aware.â
She said that some bad reviews left after the weekend had been âcompletely justifiedâ and the restaurant would âlearn from themâ.
âBut one that dropped tonight? Itâs utterly vile,â she continued.
âThe latest review posted isnât factual â we donât have naked women dancing while you eat, we donât have people being sick, we donât have vomit in the doorway and we arenât deserted on a Saturday night!
âWe served over 200 people last Saturday, Iâve checked the CCTV, no one was sitting being sick in the doorway and if they had been I would know as Iâm the cleaner!
âWhile we may not be for you â and thatâs OK and we may get things wrong which we need to fix â we arenât running some kind of brothel!â
The review on Tripadvisor. left by user âSK Fâ of Dundee, also accused the restaurant of overcharging them for their meal and having an âoff-putting atmosphereâ.
Sol y Sombra also responded to the reviewer directly on the site, saying: âMaybe the food wasnât for you and thatâs OK but there is absolutely no need for the lies.â
While a few customers have responded to the Facebook post to highlight their own issues, dozens have leapt to the restaurantâs defence.
One wrote: âNever had a bad meal in either of your establishments.
âBoth food and staff amazing.â
Another posted: âWe had a girlsâ night with you on Tuesday night.
âThe food was amazing and plentiful, the staff were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.â
One other said: âBad days happen! Malicious reviews must be challenged.â
Sol y Sombra â which is one of the top-rated restaurants in Dundee on Tripadvisor â was taken over by Kelly last year.
Last month, the owners of the Cheesy Toast Shack in St Andrews hit out at a âbeyond unfairâ review left on the website.
