The cabbie had been forced to wait for the group in his minibus-style taxi in the car park of the 59-acre theme park as they were delayed in leaving the site.

He did not leave the vehicle but received a letter a week later from Smart Parking, an enforcer acting on behalf of Pleasurewood Hills, threatening legal action for not paying to park.

The letter included a CCTV image of the driver entering the car park at 16:02 and another of him departing at 16:18.

Roy Symonds, a retired driver who now works as a legal representative for the Great Yarmouth Taxi Association, is leading the fight to have the penalty overturned and has written to 500 taxi drivers in the region to warn them about picking up from the attraction, near Lowestoft.

"And then in a few days a letter arrives at your door demanding £100, how would you feel in that situation? It is madness.

"If you are picking someone up from a car park, you do not expect to have to pay. It feels like exploitation.

"We have had countless occasions where we have been fined for being in a bus lane, but then on appeal, when we point out it is a tax, it is always rescinded. They say 'Oh apologies, it's a taxi' and it is resolved.

"But on this occasion, there has been no leniency, and they are demanding payment."

His first appeal of the fine to Smart Parking was refused, and now he is considering a second appeal and has contacted the theme park directly.
