Zoe Rowntree left her home in Dereham with her husband, who is a personal trainer, and two sons after suffering a reaction to latex.

This was triggered when work began to install a new playground near them, releasing particles from the soft matting used on the surface.

To escape the latex allergy, which affected Mrs Rowntree, who is a full-time carer, and one of her sons, the family were moved into temporary accommodation by Breckland Council.

However, they claim the property in Norwich is even more hazardous.

Mrs Rowntree described the flat as having a kitchen covered in grease and a garden that looked like a construction site.

She said: "It smelled really bad. There was also mould and damp and exposed electrical wires, which made the home unsuitable and unsafe.

"But we had nowhere else to go so we just muddled through."

Mrs Rowntree then reported the conditions to the council who have since moved her and her family into better accommodation while they decide what to do next.

She said: "Breckland have been working with us and have now moved us to a clean, safe temporary accommodation."

The ordeal has led Mrs Rowntree to start a fundraiser.

She hopes to use donations to purchase a mobile home in a holiday park, which can be used by other families who find themselves unexpectedly homeless.

"I just want families in that situation to have clean beds and cooking and washing facilities to alleviate the immediate worry of having nowhere to go.

"We hope it will reduce stress for them and their children during an already extremely difficult time."

A spokesman for Breckland Council said the council would not be commenting on individual cases.
