Uncertainty has not yet come home to roost for this year’s Top 400 Contractors, based on the $600-billion total revenue they reported for 2024—up 7.9% for listed firms even as they balance limited labor resources against rising construction costs and rapidly shifting project demands. But behind the boost, contractors say cracks in waning consumer confidence are appearing as owners cancel some projects and pause others—amid confusion over the Trump administration’s “America First” agenda.
