Nebraska Representative Mike Flood faced significant backlash at a town hall meeting after admitting he hadn't thoroughly read President Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" before voting for it. This admission caused outrage amongst his constituents, particularly concerning provisions that could potentially allow the U.S. government to more easily defy court orders.
Flood attempted to defend his actions, asserting his belief in the rule of law and stating he informed Senate Republicans of his concerns after discovering the problematic provisions. He reiterated his commitment to upholding the court system but did not explain his failure to fully review the bill's details prior to voting.
The audience reacted with loud expressions of disapproval. Beyond the bill, Flood also faced criticism on other topics such as Medicaid cuts and changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. One constituent even labeled him a "fascist," a charge Flood vehemently denied.
This incident isn't Flood's first brush with contentious town hall meetings. He previously faced similar strong disapproval in March for his stance on Elon Musk and his comments on Ukraine following a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
