Building Figma Plugins Without Coding

This article demonstrates two methods for creating Figma plugins without coding: Artifig AI and Cursor AI. Both leverage AI to simplify the plugin development process.

Artifig AI

Artifig AI is described as a Figma plugin that builds other Figma plugins. Users describe the desired plugin functionality, UI, and visuals, optionally uploading images for reference. Version history allows for iterative development and bug fixing.

  • Plugin creation is guided by prompts detailing functionality and visual aspects.
  • Users can even upload a UI mockup image.
  • Version control enables easy modification and rollback.
  • A large community contributes and shares plugins.

Cursor AI

Cursor AI is presented as a powerful AI assistant that streamlined the creation of a gradient plugin in just 15 minutes. The process involved selecting a project folder and letting the AI handle the setup and code generation.

Building your own Figma plugin is a super power. One moment you have a problem/idea and the other moment you have a custom plugin to solve that exact problem.

Artifig AI is a Figma plugin that builds Figma plugins! It opens as a little popup with a prompt window.

  • You can even upload an image of how the UI of the plugin should look like and even edit with/without code.

Whatโ€™s cool about this tool is the version history feature. You can add new features and fix bugs, all while keeping the old versions and you can always go back-and-forth while building.

They have thousands of community members submitting new plugins every day which you can see and even replicate.

Cursor AI โ€” Powerful AI Assistant

One thing that AI has done for designers, is allowed us to build apps and tools without learning code. Cursor AI allowed me to create and publish my gradient plugin in 15 minutes flat!
