A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was detained by the Pakistan Rangers after he inadvertently crossed the Punjab border on Wednesday afternoon. A BSF official said on Thursday that flag meetings were being held with the Rangers to secure his release.
Constable P.K. Sahu of the 182nd battalion was apprehended by the Pakistan Rangers across the Ferozepur border on Wednesday while he was accompanying farmers beyond the fence. Farmers are allowed to cultivate land metres ahead of the fence in the presence of BSF personnel.
Sahu, a resident of West Bengal, was in uniform and carried his service rifle. He was moved ahead to rest in shade when he was apprehended by the Rangers.
An official said such incidents were common and have happened in the past between the two sides.
The Pakistani media released Sahu’s photos where he is blindfolded.
The incident comes against the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack with India taking a slew of measures against Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism.
