Ferrari, facing a lack of customer interest, has postponed the launch of its second all-electric vehicle from 2026 to 2028. This decision follows similar delays by other luxury brands like Lamborghini and Aston Martin, highlighting challenges in the transition to electric vehicles in the luxury market.
The company's first electric vehicle, the Elletrica, is still slated for a 2026 release, serving as a milestone introduction to the market. However, the second vehicle, while more ambitious with a longer lifespan and higher production volume, has been postponed due to insufficient customer demand.
The delay mirrors trends within the industry. Lamborghini has pushed back its first electric supercar, while Maserati cancelled its electric MC20 project. Aston Martin also delayed its first electric vehicle launch.
Ferrari's initial electric vehicle, co-designed by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, will be a high-priced model (around $500,000) and larger than usual but not an SUV. Details about the delayed second model remain scarce.
