Stiftung Warentest evaluated several sandwich toasters, highlighting two models available in Germany: the Tefal Snack Time and the WMF Lono, both priced around €50. While generally acceptable, both struggled with thicker fillings like those including pineapple, making it difficult to close the appliance. The Tefal Snack Time was also noted for its bulky design.
The review pointed out more serious flaws in other tested toasters concerning safety and sandwich quality. Problems included uneven browning, cheese leakage and crusting on the heating plates, and excessive external heating (over 80 degrees Celsius in some cases).
The testers recommended cleaning the toasters with a soft cloth to avoid damaging the non-stick coating. Harsh cleaning tools like scouring pads should be avoided.
A final note mentioned that Stiftung Warentest has also conducted reviews on classic toasters.
