The rich and famous typically start flocking to the Hamptons on Memorial Day weekend - but this year, they're heading to far more exclusive locales.
Rather than head out to the Long Island's east end, celebrities and the super rich are making their way overseas.
Stars including Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez have owned several multi-million dollar mansions in the Hamptons. Out East, you can find their sprawling, secluded compounds, but so can the prying eyes of paparazzi, and that's the problem.
As the years have gone on, the elite area has become incredibly crowded, especially as Manhattanites boast about taking day trips courtesy of Jitney rides on the Long Island Expressway.Â
Now, vacationers are opting to spend the summer in more off-the-beaten path locations and experts are exclusively telling the Daily Mail why they've made the jump from Out East to Portugal, France and Croatia.Â
Jeff Lichtenstein, broker and CEO at Echo Fine Properties in Jupiter, Florida, told the Daily Mail that 'the uber-wealthy are changing it up this year,' adding that he's hearing about more people buying vacation residences in Portugal and heading to Spain on glamorous trips.Â
These moneyed folks are visiting 'anywhere from Lagos to Carvoeiro overlooking the cliffs on the Atlantic to ultra new golf course communities within minutes of the Faro airport,'Â Lichtenstein explained.Â
While prices have skyrocketed in recent years, it's still relatively inexpensive in comparison to other areas. Portugal attracts people from the UK, Spain, Saudi Arabia and the rest of Europe, making it a more global crowd than the one you'll find in the Hamptons.Â

Jeff Lichtenstein, broker at Echo Fine Properties, told the Daily Mail, 'The uber-wealthy are changing it up this year,' adding that he's hearing more people are buying vacation residences in Portugal
'The Portuguese are English language friendly and labor is inexpensive to hire,' Lichtenstein added. The broker explained that Portugal also offers an escape for people 'who are looking to get away from the states for political reasons.'Â
Darijo Saric, the CEO of VIP Holiday Booker, has handled high-end vacations for celebrities including Julia Roberts and Rami Malek, as well as athletes, moguls and politicians, who all request 'secluded accommodations, private yacht charters and exclusive services.'Â
They're looking for the White Lotus experience. Think private villas with Instagram-worthy infinity pools, personal chefs at their beck and call, a personal masseuse and other professionals available for wellness experiences, and security systems to guarantee safety.Â
Many are choosing Croatia for privacy, as stars like the Beckhams, BeyoncĂ©, Kim Kardashian, Jeff Bezos and Katy Perry have visited on superyachts that come equipped with saunas, cinemas, hot tubs and of course, devoted crews.Â
Other high net worth individuals are visiting old favorites like St. Barths and Cannes.Â
Hawaii is a popular destination for tech billionaires - Bezos and his wife-to-be Lauren Sanchez purchased a $78 million estate on La Perouse Bay. Mark Zuckerberg bought a sprawling 600-acre property for a cool $53 million on the island of Kauai. The Facebook founder also reportedly acquired a 700-acre property on one of the islands for more than $100 million in 2014.
For more remote settings, billionaires are considering Yellowstone and flocking to Montana’s Paradise Valley.Â
George and Amal Clooney have a quiet life in France, where they're unbothered by nosy neighbors.Â
Liberty House Buying Group founder Eli Pasternak told the Daily Mail that the Hamptons 'lost its exclusivity about five years ago,' which is when his ultrahigh-net-worth clients started complaining about crowds, despite the area still commanding high prices.
Pasternak believes that 'social media ruined the privacy these people actually pay for and now paparazzi camp outside every decent restaurant in East Hampton during summer weekends.'Â
The once quiet and idyllic towns have become overrun with influencers who are desperate to get into Surf Lodge and share snaps of their overpriced Ralph's Coffee lattes on social media.

Over the years, the Hamptons attracted Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill Clinton, Alec Baldwin, Ethan Hawke, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Bon Jovi, Jerry Seinfeld and so many more. Montauk is particularly star-studded, as A-listers flock to hot spots like the Surf Lodge beach club and Gurney's.Â
As influencers share how to nail an easy and inexpensive day trip, more and more regular folks are making the journey by train or bus. For the ultra-rich who don't want to mingle with plebeians, traffic is becoming an 'unbearable' problem, Pasternak said - although it's always possible to opt for a helicopter journey, instead.
He told the Daily Mail that his client who owns a $12 million compound in Southampton recently spent four hours driving the roughly 93 miles from Manhattan on a Friday, which is 'longer than flying to Miami.'
'When you're worth 100 million dollars you don't want to sit in the same traffic as everyone else trying to reach Jones Beach,' Pasternak quipped.Â
Now, his wealthy buyers are moving to 'more lowkey spots like Fisher Island in Miami, where security actually works, and Kiawah Island in South Carolina because it's impossible for random people to just show up.'Â
Others, he says, are opting for classic destinations like Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. 'Another client bought in Nantucket instead because it still requires some effort to reach, unlike the Hamptons which became way too accessible.'
'The one percent want isolation they cannot buy in traditional spots anymore and these lesser known islands deliver actual privacy without Instagram crowds taking selfies outside their gates.'
