A man arrested after a shooting on Waterpasstraat in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek on 6 August has been placed under an arrest warrant by the investigating judge, the Brussels prosecutor’s office announced on Friday.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, is also believed to have been involved in a shooting that occurred the previous day, 5 August, on Ransfortstraat in the same district. Fortunately, no one was injured in either incident.
“The public prosecutor stresses that gun violence has no place in our society and that the prosecutor’s office and police will continue to strengthen efforts to combat this violence,” stated office spokesperson Laura Demullier.
On Tuesday, 5 August, around 14:00, a shooting took place on Ransfortstraat involving two suspects who fled on a scooter. Although there were no injuries, a bullet hit the windscreen of a passing car. The occupants were uninjured but shocked, and the police enlisted victim support services to assist them.
The following day, Wednesday, 6 August, shots were fired between three individuals on Waterpasstraat, near Ransfortstraat. Again, there were no injuries, but a parked vehicle and a house suffered damage. Police found multiple shell casings and seized two scooters at the scene.
Two suspects managed to escape, but a third, a 20-year-old man, was apprehended and is suspected of involvement in both shootings. He is now under an arrest warrant issued by the investigating judge.
