Top 10 Rarest PlayStation 3 Games

This article lists the ten rarest PlayStation 3 games based on their average new, complete-in-box (CIB) prices, excluding collector's editions. Rarity is determined by market availability and price.

  • NBA Elite 11: Never officially released due to cancellation, making it extremely rare and valuable.
  • Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories: Limited Asian release with poor English translation further contributing to its scarcity.
  • Syberia Complete Collection: Although available on other platforms, the PS3 physical version is hard to find.
  • Painkiller: Hell & Damnation: Two versions exist due to German censorship, resulting in varying rarity across versions.
  • The Last Guy: PlayStation 3 exclusive utilizing real-world locations via Google Earth images.
  • Rock Band Special Edition: Original Rock Band release bundled with instruments, making finding a new copy difficult.
  • The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition: High sales at release, but limited to the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
  • Rock Band 2 Bundle: Bundled with instruments, scarcity increases due to unavailability on newer consoles.
  • Band Hero Superbundle: 2009 release with instruments, making it a nostalgic and rare find.
  • BlazBlue: Central Fiction: Difficult to find, unique due to only featuring Japanese voice acting.

The PlayStation 3 was first introduced back in 2006. The console didn't gain as much popularity as its predecessor; the PlayStation 2. Still, the more recent of the two held an impressive library of games, some rarer than others. This leaves us asking, what are the rarest PlayStation 3 games?

In this list, we are going to go over some of the rarest PlayStation 3 games out there. Oftentimes, rarity can be subjective to measure. Because of this, our list will be based on the average prices of a new version of the game in question, which is complete-in-box (CIB).

This will only include individual games. Collector's editions are generally more money than the standard counterpart, as they include extra (non-essential) additions, so these will be excluded.

10 BlazBlue: Central Fiction

First, on our list, we have BlazBlue: Central Fiction. Unlike many games that are featured on our list, BlazBlue: Central Fiction is available on many consoles, as well as the Nintendo Switch. What makes the game so rare then?

It seems that in general, the game is just hard to find. It's interesting to note that this game is the only BlazBlue title to not have English voice acting; you can only play the game with Japanese audio.

9 Band Hero Superbundle

Next, we have the Band Hero Superbundle. This bundle includes all you need to play Band Hero, including the drum set, guitar, and microphone. For a low price of around $240, this 2009 game can be yours.

This PlayStation 3 Band Hero is a bit of a timepiece; the description of the game states that there are some of the hottest bands from 'today' included, such as Fall Out Boy No Doubt, and Evanescence. Oh, and you can play Taylor Swift's Love Story.

8 Rock Band 2 Bundle

Here, we have another band game. This time, it's Rock Band 2. Like the bundle above, this also comes with the instruments needed to play. Overall, this is pretty much the same as our previous entry too.

Rather than focusing on the hottest songs, Rock Band 2 focuses on, well, rock bands. OIder Rock band games are not available on the PlayStation 4 (or 5), making them quite rare.

7 The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition

Oh look, another Rock Band game. This time, it's The Beatles version, which was only released on PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. As expected, this version of the game includes Beatles songs.

Interestingly, this game was one of the highest-selling games at the time of its release. The Beatles proved to be a timeless band, and this game would definitely be a hit if it was remastered for a modern console.

6 Rock Band Special Edition

This is the last Band game on our list, we promise. This edition comes with a drum set, guitar, and two microphones for you to use. Like the second Rock Band game, this game is filled with popular rock songs for you to enjoy.

Why the high price? Well, this is the original Rock Band, released the same year the PlayStation 3 was released. New versions of this game are not produced, and it's hard to find new instruments. Overall, the Rock Band Special Edition is a relic of nostalgia.

5 The Last Guy

The Last Guy is a PlayStation 3 exclusive game that's unlike any other game on our list. In the game, you will need to escape from a city that is flooded with zombies. What stands this game apart from others is its use of real-world locations.

Rather than rendering a video game version of a city, The Last Guy uses Google Earth images. This means that when you escape the city, you are navigating through what it actually looks like.

4 Painkiller: Hell & Damnation

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is a 2012 sequel to the original Painkiller game from 2004. This is a classic first-person shooter where you are tasked with making your way through demon-filled levels.

Interestingly, there are two versions of this game. The North American version is the standard version, however another version was made when German censorship laws stated that the game was "too evil". Because of this, a less "evil" version of the game was released.

3 Syberia Complete Collection

The first entry in the top three is Syberia Complete Edition. Currently, there are four games in the Syberia series (five, if you include Amerzone which released in 1999). Since this version was released in 2016, the collection only consisted of two games, so this PlayStation 3 version just has the two included.

Like BlazBlue: Cross Fiction, this game is available on many consoles, but this physical version for the PlayStation 3 is quite hard to find.

2 Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories

In second place, we have Aquanaut's Holiday: Hidden Memories. This is an ocean exploration game, where your goal is to find a missing oceanographer. If you have never heard of this game, it's for a good reason. Aquanaut's Holiday was never released outside of Asia. In September of 2008, the game was released with Japanese as the only language.

A few months later, the game was re-released in Chinese and English, but still not officially released in North America or Europe. The English translation was also not the best, with many portions being hard to understand.

1 NBA Elite 11

You may have noticed that the first-place entry is way more valuable than any other on our list. In first place in NBA Elite 11. The reason why the game is so expensive is quite an interesting story. NBA Elite 11 was originally going to be released on October 5, 2010.

Rather than releasing as planned, the game was canceled and never had an official release. Still, many stores already had copies of the game. Because of this, there are very few copies of this game that technically never released.
