At approximately 3 a.m. on October 26, 1984, two truck drivers in Germany came across a bizarre scene.

They witnessed a visibly injured person wearing a white jacket walking away from a wrecked blue VW Golf I sitting in a ditch of the Autobahn 45 near Hagen-Süd, about 60 miles from Haigerseelbach, Germany. Concerned that this person needed assistance, both truck drivers pull over to use a nearby roadside emergency phone and call the police. They then approach the wrecked vehicle only to find a conscious, severely injured, and naked 34-year-old man named Günther Stoll in the passenger seat of what turned out to be his car. With leaves and dirt stuck to him, no clothes in sight, only his shoes sat neatly beside his feet in the footwell of the driver’s side. Günther tells both truck drivers that four other men were with him in his car and that they had all run away. The truck drivers ask Günther if these men were his friends, to which he says they were not. Shortly after this exchange, Günther succumbs to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
