A railway workers' strike will take place from 22:00 on 27 April until 22:00 on 4 May, the independent rail union Metisp-Protect confirmed to Belga News Agency on Friday. The workers are denouncing retirement reforms and working conditions.
This is the second action taken by the rail union after an initial week-long strike from 23 to 30 March.
The union filed the new strike notice following an unsuccessful emergency meeting on Thursday with HR Rail, the legal employer of railway staff. All HR Rail, SNCB/NMBS and Infrabel staff are covered by the strike notice, according to Metisp-Protect representative, Farid Chkhachkhi.
The strike "aims to denounce the continuing serious threats to the rights and working conditions of railway workers," according to the union.
It aims to highlight the increase in the retirement age for railway workers and the abolition of bonuses, the risk of HR Rail being dissolved and a reduction in entitlement to benefits.
This action will take place in addition to other actions taken by five other unions, CGSP Cheminots, CSC-Transcom, SLFP, Sic and Sact, on 22 and 29 April.
