ST. LOUIS — An 18-year-old woman died late Saturday night after she fell off an SUV and was struck by a fire truck.

A preliminary police investigation indicates the woman was initially dancing on the roof of an idling Cadillac Escalade at the corner of Chouteau and South Compton avenues, next to the Topgolf in Midtown. Then the Escalade made a left turn, and she fell off the SUV and onto the pavement.

Moments later, police say, she was hit by a fire truck headed to an emergency call with lights and sirens on.

The woman was identified as Nyla Simmons, of the 1300 block of Orchard Lakes Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County.

All vehicles and drivers involved remained on the scene, police said. An investigation is ongoing.

St. Louis consistently lands on lists of most dangerous cities, but readers need to carefully look at how such lists are prepared.
