Corso’s coach in the fourths at Cobram FNC, Danny Kelf, said that for his age, the small forward stood out.

“It’s a good opportunity for him,” Kelf said.

“He’s done well and he deserves it. We’re rapt for him.

“It’s a great achievement for a kid for Cobram to represent your state. Only so many kids get the chance to do it.”

Memorably, two years ago, Corso, who was then 10 years old, had the chance to fill in for Cobram against Rumbalara.

Only minutes after he took the field, Corso kicked a major. It was his first kick of the game.

“You could see back then that there was something special about him,” Kelf said.

Despite Corso being a bottom-ager in the fourths, he sits second in his Cobram team for goal-kicking, making a name for himself in the side that currently sits atop the under-14s table with a staggering percentage of 2434.15.

Corso joined about 940 kids to take part in trials from Bendigo to Melbourne, which organisers used to whittle down the talent pool to the final 23 players.

In early August, Corso will travel to Maroochydore, Queensland, to join his team as it goes up against counterparts from other states in the School Sport Australia Championships.

Corso’s selection comes after another product of Cobram Football Netball Club’s junior program, Eamon Hyde, found his name on the under-15s Victorian representative team sheet earlier this month.
