A plan to counter the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) influence in the US has been unveiled by former Trump administration officials Richard Grenell and Chad Wolf. The plan focuses on six policy areas: border security, food supply security, energy dominance, national security technology protection, fair trade, and the return of key industries to the US.
The initiative, "Protecting American Initiatives", aims to help lawmakers draft legislation to protect the US from CCP interference. It plans to engage grassroots mobilization and work with Congressional Republicans to push the legislation through Congress and to the President's desk for signature. Previous bipartisan bills addressing CCP influence were stalled in Congress.
Grenell stated that the Trump administration is taking the threat from the CCP seriously. Wolf expressed confidence that Trump would respond to CCP challenges and that US lawmakers need to adopt stronger policies. The White House affirmed that Trump was the first president in decades to confront China and that he has ultimate authority on policies holding China accountable.
The Protecting American Initiative, founded in 2024, previously supported Trump's 2024 campaign and organized a roundtable discussion with farmers to discuss issues concerning Chinese land purchases. The initiative also worked with state legislators to oppose the CCP's agenda and supported Trump's tariffs on Beijing.
Analysts believe the new plan demonstrates a continuation of the Trump administration's hardline stance towards China.
