Minister Gutzanov aims to increase maternity benefits in Bulgaria, specifically raising the current 780 BGN monthly allowance for the second year of maternity leave. He also plans to increase the additional percentage of the allowance for mothers returning to work from 50% to 75% of the base amount.
The minister asserts that these increases are financially viable, projecting additional revenue from increased tax contributions if even 10% of mothers return to work. This revenue is estimated at 12.4 million BGN.
The proposal was previously submitted by the BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) but failed to gain majority support. Gutzanov expressed confidence in securing its approval.
