Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu launched the ambitious 'Zero Poverty - P4' initiative on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year. The program aims to eliminate poverty in the state by 2029.
The 'P4' initiative, standing for Public-Private-People Partnership, involves pairing wealthy individuals ('Margadarsies' - mentors) with underprivileged families ('Bangaru Kutumbams' - golden families). The government will monitor progress through digital dashboards.
The initiative draws inspiration from global philanthropists and historical examples of mentorship and societal support.
Chief Minister Naidu expressed confidence in the initiative's success, stating that progress will be tracked and evaluated regularly, with the goal of lifting all 'Bangaru Kutumbams' out of poverty by 2029. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan highlighted the initiative's focus on creating self-sustaining families.
The program began by connecting three leading industrialists with two selected families. The government has already identified 30 lakh families for targeted support through Gram Sabhas.
