Andhra Pradesh's Door-to-Door Ration Delivery

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a program to deliver ration supplies directly to the homes of ration cardholders. This initiative uses 9,260 'Mobile Dispensing Units' (vehicles) to distribute quality rice and other essential commodities.

Addressing Concerns

The program aims to solve two key problems: ensuring the quality of rations and reducing the burden on beneficiaries who previously had to wait in long queues at fair price shops. The Chief Minister was inspired to implement this after witnessing the difficulties faced by elderly and differently-abled individuals during his 3,648 km padayatra.

Program Details

The government subsidized the purchase of the 9,260 vehicles at a cost of ₹539 Crore, providing a 60% subsidy to eligible beneficiaries through various corporations under the Employment Guarantee Scheme. Each vehicle costs ₹5,81,000, with a subsidy of ₹3,48,600. The launch event took place in Vijayawada, with 2,500 vehicles for Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts flagged off.
