The Peruvian Comptroller General's office raised serious concerns about the inadequate security measures in place to protect cultural goods at the new Jorge Chávez International Airport's terminal. Their report (N° 004-2025-OCI/5765-SVC) highlights two major issues: lack of internet access and an unfavorable location for the Ministry of Culture's inspection module.
The Ministry of Culture responded that internet access is being arranged and that communication with security personnel will be via phone. However, joint testing with security and customs hadn't occurred as of March 7th.
Lima Airport Partners (LAP) denied any issues, stating all modules have sufficient infrastructure for internet access and that the Ministry of Culture was aware of the location since 2019. They also emphasized the Ministry's participation in operational tests. The Ministry stated they are finalizing an internet service contract and are reviewing a joint action protocol with LAP.
Experts, including a former Minister of Culture, voiced concern about the inadequate security measures. These issues could affect the passenger experience and the overall quality of service provided by public entities at the airport, and negatively impact the timely opening of the new terminal, already delayed from its March 30th opening.
