Disrespectful Conduct at Dunedin City Council Meeting

A Dunedin City Council meeting was disrupted by several incidents involving councillors' conduct. Mike Waddell, a submitter, criticized councillors for laughing during his presentation on the proposed Smooth Hill landfill, calling their behavior "appalling."

Walkouts and Ejections

Three councillors, Steve Walker, Marie Laufiso, and Christine Garey, walked out during a presentation by Strath Taieri Community Board chairman Barry Williams, citing his past racist remarks. Later, Cr Walker was ejected from the meeting for refusing to withdraw a statement deemed factually correct by the mayor.

Points of Order and Disrespect

Further disruptions arose from a submission by Robyn Vintiner, leading to several points of order regarding disrespect towards council staff. The mayor cautioned Ms. Vintiner for her repeated aspersions.

Overall, the meeting was characterized by a lack of decorum and respect among the councillors, highlighting concerns about the council's conduct and processes.
