Luis Ernesto Carles, former deputy and vice president of Panama's Paname帽ista Party, strongly criticizes the party's leadership under Jos茅 Isabel Bland贸n. He accuses Bland贸n of maneuvering to prevent necessary internal restructuring and remaining silent on a Paname帽ista deputy's support for an amnesty bill for corrupt officials. Carles calls for Bland贸n's resignation and the party's leadership's removal.
The situation has reached the electoral justice system. A crucial hearing on April 25th saw the Paname帽ista Party almost lose its official representation due to internal obstacles. However, due to pressure from a group of directors and the temporary head of the first vice presidency, Herbert Young, they managed to defend the legality of the convocation process.
Carles highlights potential new leaders such as Jorge Herrera and Carlos Ra煤l Piad. However, he alleges that Bland贸n is attempting to discredit them by associating them with past leaders like Mireya Moscoso and Juan Carlos Varela. Carles interprets this as Bland贸n's fear of losing his position.
The Paname帽ista Party experienced a significant loss of around five thousand members by December 2024, just months after the general elections.
