Caxias do Sul, Brazil, will launch a tender for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to tackle its preschool education shortfall. The project aims to construct 31 new schools within three years, accommodating approximately 7,200 students.
The initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Adiló Didomenico's administration, involves building schools in areas currently lacking preschool facilities. The BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank) modeled the PPP, and its representatives will attend the tender launch. Three basic school sizes will be used depending on available land. The winning company will be responsible for construction and 25 years of building maintenance and will be paid a maximum of R$ 8 million monthly (although this could be less depending on bids).
The city anticipates improved educational funding through increased Fundeb and PNAE allocations. Eliminating the need to pay for private preschool places will also provide savings.
