The Valencian regional government's Education Ministry has proposed a new language model for schools, designed to comply with the new Education Freedom Law. This proposal suggests that Mathematics be taught in Spanish throughout primary and secondary education, while other subjects like Social Studies (and its equivalents in secondary school) would be taught in Valencian. This is irrespective of whether the primary language of instruction in the class is Spanish or Valencian, a decision determined by the families' preferences.
The proposal aims to provide a framework, but schools retain some autonomy in creating timetables and determining language distribution within the outlined constraints. The final language models will be approved by school councils.
The proposed language distribution in Primary school varies between first and second grade (more Spanish instruction) and grades three through six (more balanced distribution) to conform to the 20% rule.
In Secondary Education, the proposal suggests maintaining a similar structure, with Mathematics consistently in Spanish and other subjects such as Science and History in Valencian (except in Spanish-dominant areas).
