The 'Cellex case', investigating the alleged misappropriation of funds from the charitable foundations of Pere Mir, has revealed a conflict of interest involving Enriqueta Felip, the second-in-command of Josep Tabernero at the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
Felip holds high-ranking positions at VHIO, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, and serves as a board member of Grifols, a multinational hemoderivative company. This raises concerns regarding potential incompatibilities, especially given that Grifols is a supplier to Vall d'Hebron Hospital.
The VHIO maintains that Felip's potential conflict of interest was reported to the competent authorities and the Institute's Management Committee, who deemed no conflict existed. They also highlight that Felip is not a VHIO employee but rather assigned personnel.
Critics argue that Felip's positions present a clear conflict of interest, especially in light of the Office of Anti-Fraud of Catalonia's definition of conflict of interest. The fact that Tabernero is under investigation in the Cellex case further intensifies the concerns.
The Cellex case involves the investigation of Tabernero, along with two lawyers, for alleged embezzlement of funds from Mir's foundations. The investigation includes arrests and searches.
