The Frente Amplio por la Democracia (FAD), a left-wing political party in Panama, is nearing its official reconstitution after two previous unsuccessful attempts. The party needs to elect delegates who will vote for its board of directors, a process scheduled for June 29, 2025.
This is the FAD's third attempt to gain legal recognition as a political force. While previous attempts failed to garner sufficient votes, leaders express greater confidence this time. The party is backed by powerful groups including the Suntracs union and other organizations. Key figures like William Hughes, Fernando Cebamano, Maribel Gordón, Saúl Méndez, and Genaro López are involved.
Richard Morales, a prominent figure in the FAD, currently isn't actively involved in the process due to his studies in China. While his current role is limited, the party hopes for his future involvement.
The FAD previously participated in the 2014 and 2019 general elections, securing less than 1% of the votes on both occasions, leading to the temporary dissolution of the party. In the 2024 elections, they supported Maribel Gordón and Richard Morales as independent candidates, surpassing previous vote counts.
