Key Decision

The Brazilian government has withdrawn a decree intended to formalize the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA).

Background

The draft decree, prepared by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), was under review by the Civil House. It was anticipated since its presentation to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in July at the 5th National Conference on Science and Technology (5CNCTI).

Outcome

The decree will not be published, effectively halting the official implementation of the PBIA at this time.
