A scheme involving the fraudulent deduction of funds from the paychecks of retirees and pensioners of the Brazilian INSS (National Institute of Social Security) has been uncovered.
Several associations were involved, charging pensioners for services such as legal advice or health plans without proper authorization. The CGU (Controladoria-Geral da União) found that in 97% of a sample of 1,300 cases, pensioners stated they did not authorize the deductions.
The article also highlights a dispute between ministers Walton Alencar and Aroldo Cedraz regarding the handling of the case within the INSS, with accusations of delaying tactics and making unfounded accusations.
