Junts per Catalunya (JxCat), led by Jordi Turull, is initiating a campaign called "Junts se explica" ("Junts explains itself") to counter declining popularity and address the rise of Aliança Catalana, an ultra-nationalist party.
JxCat faces competition from the PSC (Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya) and the growing influence of Aliança Catalana, which is gaining support from voters previously aligned with JxCat. Recent polls show JxCat losing ground to Aliança Catalana.
JxCat is aiming to highlight its achievements, particularly its role in national politics and recent agreements with the Spanish government, such as the transfer of immigration competencies to the Catalan government. The party also seeks to regain local influence in municipalities where Aliança Catalana has increased its presence.
Aliança Catalana's stronghold is in Ripoll, and despite its expansion into other regions, JxCat's campaign route does not include Ripoll. Notably, JxCat declined an opportunity to unseat Aliança Catalana's mayor.
JxCat has adopted a stricter stance on immigration, which coincides with the rise of the far-right. Some JxCat mayors have expressed concerns about immigration policies, suggesting stricter criteria for access to social welfare and housing.
