A report by the Madrid Municipal Police has cleared its chief, Pablo Enrique RodrĂguez, of wrongdoing in the response to a child's accident. This follows the mayor, JosĂ© Luis MartĂnez-Almeida's, public consideration of Rodriguez's dismissal.
The report, released four hours after Almeida's statement, claims the accident report was filed within 24 hours, according to internal regulations. It cites witnesses claiming the car was traveling at a normal speed and the mother's actions contributed to the incident.
This contradicts accounts from EL PAĂŤS's investigations and those of the mother, child, and other witnesses.
The report also downplays the lack of a breathalyzer test due to equipment limitations during a city-wide power outage, noting a similar lack of testing in other incidents that day.
Almeida stated his decision on Rodriguez's position would depend on the report’s findings, acknowledging his displeasure at not being informed directly.
Opposition parties continue to pressure Almeida to dismiss RodrĂguez and even the deputy mayor, Inmaculada Sanz. They have requested related documentation and Más Madrid filed a formal complaint.
The family received a call from the city hall a week after the accident, with promises of further contact and assistance.
The father stated their plans to seek legal counsel, and mentioned their daughter's injuries, including a broken ankle and possible knee injury.
The police report concludes that the parents haven't filed a complaint yet, but they plan to pursue legal action. The case remains open, and further investigation is required.
