The Times and The Sunday Times released their annual ranking of Scottish secondary schools, based on the percentage of students achieving five Highers or equivalent. North Berwick High School achieved the highest ranking in East Lothian, at 14th place, a significant jump from 28th place the previous year.
Several schools showed improvements from the previous year's rankings. East Lothian Council acknowledged the ranking as a useful measure but noted that it doesn't reflect the full picture of student achievement, as it doesn't include other qualifications such as foundation apprenticeships and vocational awards.
The rankings highlight the performance of East Lothian's secondary schools in relation to the national standard. While some schools show substantial improvement, the council emphasizes that diverse learning pathways and accomplishments beyond the five Highers benchmark should also be considered.
