Luis Amador Jiménez, former Minister of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) in Costa Rica, has confirmed his candidacy for the 2026 presidential elections.
While not explicitly naming the party, Amador's blue and green tie strongly suggests an affiliation with the Progreso Social Democrático party, the same party that propelled Rodrigo Chaves to the presidency.
Amador, who was dismissed by President Chaves in March 2024, initiated discussions with a political party in 2024 and continued them into 2025. His campaign will focus on national issues such as education, health, security, infrastructure, and potable water.
In an interview with La Reacción, Amador subtly revealed his party affiliation through the colors of his tie, stating, “You haven’t noticed that I’m wearing a new tie, by chance. Do you like the colors I’m wearing today?” This was in response to a question from interviewer Danilo Chaves who asked for a hint regarding which political party Amador would be joining.
