Key Demands

Maratha leaders in Karnataka are advocating for the reclassification of their community from the current 3B category to the 2A category of backward classes. This change is sought to enhance the community's access to education and government jobs and improve their overall development.

Arguments for Reclassification

MLA Anjali Nimbalkar emphasized the community's predominantly agricultural background and educational backwardness as reasons for needing reclassification. She also highlighted the need for better political representation.

MLA Anil Benake additionally urged for a substantial increase in the Karnataka Maratha Development Corporation's funding, proposing a ₹100 crore allocation. A memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister, and further meetings are planned.

Calls for Unity

Community leader Ramakant Konduskar stressed the importance of unity among Marathas, drawing parallels to the historical figure Shivaji Maharaj and warning against the exploitation of the community for political purposes.
