The Supreme Court of Brazil (STF) has given former President Fernando Collor 48 hours to present medical documents proving health issues that his defense argues should justify house arrest instead of his current imprisonment. Justice Alexandre de Moraes had already requested these documents, including medical records and test results, ordering secrecy on the matter.
Collor's defense claims that his 75 years of age and serious health conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, severe sleep apnea, and bipolar disorder, require continuous care and specialized medical attention.
Despite the defense's claims, during his custody hearing, Collor himself stated he is not ill and does not take any medication.
The STF recently voted six to four to uphold Collor's imprisonment. Justice Alexandre de Moraes initiated the imprisonment, a decision backed by a majority of the court.
Justices Flavio Dino, Edson Fachin, Luis Roberto Barroso, Cármen Lúcia, and Dias Toffoli sided with the relator in favor of imprisonment. André Mendonça was the only one to initially support the defense's arguments against the imposed sentence.
