Interpol refused to issue a red notice for Marcin Romanowski, citing confidentiality. Unofficial sources suggest this is due to Romanowski's asylum in Hungary.
Romanowski, a former deputy justice minister and PiS member, obtained asylum in Hungary in December. He faces 11 charges related to irregularities in the allocation of state funds from the Justice Fund, including alleged involvement in an organized crime group and manipulating grant competitions.
A three-month arrest warrant was issued, followed by a European Arrest Warrant after he was found in Hungary. Poland's request for an Interpol red notice was denied.
The Interpol decision halts international pursuit except via a European Arrest Warrant. Romanowski resigned his parliamentary status on January 2nd and will not receive a salary from the Sejm.
