The investigation centers around Jelena Perossa, a former official in Buje, and Mile Kekin, a musician and husband of a Croatian Member of Parliament. Five other individuals and four legal entities are also implicated.
Perossa is accused of selling municipal properties at significantly below market value to individuals and companies linked to the other suspects. This allegedly involved using outdated property evaluations and manipulating processes.
The city of Buje is estimated to have lost at least 459,314 euros due to the alleged corruption scheme.
The investigation is ongoing, with pre-trial detention requested for three of the accused by the Uskok (Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime).
