Rafael Bortoletti, mayor of Viamão, Brazil, has been sentenced to nine years and one month in prison for divulging intimate content of his ex-partner without her consent. The content, described as audio recordings of explicit sexual acts, was played during a political meeting. Bortoletti is also accused of attempting to bribe witnesses to deny their knowledge of the incident.
The judgment was delivered by Judge Igor Guerzoni Paolinelli Hamade on Wednesday, April 16th. The charge was brought forth by the Women's Domestic and Family Violence Court in Viamão. Bortoletti was found guilty of violating his ex-partner's privacy and attempting to obstruct justice.
Bortoletti's defense, led by Dr. Adler Baum, stated that the Public Ministry had initially recommended the case's dismissal. They intend to appeal the decision to the Rio Grande do Sul Court of Justice, expressing confidence that the ruling will be overturned. The defense highlights the initial recommendation for dismissal by the Public Ministry as a crucial aspect of their appeal.
