Key Events

A public servant, Erny Meinhardt, was indicted for racism after performing a white supremacist hand gesture at a Fepam meeting. The investigation uncovered Nazi-related items (images, a swastika, a hood, helmet and mask) and child pornography on his computer and phone.

Investigation Details

The investigation was launched after Meinhardt made the "OK" gesture, a symbol associated with white supremacist groups. A police search warrant was executed at his residence where the incriminating materials were found. The IGP (Instituto-Geral de Perícias) confirmed the findings. Meinhardt was also indicted for possession of child pornography, and the case has been referred to the Deca (Delegacia da Criança e do Adolescente).

Fepam's Response

Fepam's internal investigation is suspended due to Meinhardt's 120-day psychological leave. The administrative disciplinary process (PAD) is underway and expected to conclude in 60 days.

Defense's Argument

Meinhardt's defense claims the gesture referred to his initials, within an internal "electoral context" at Fepam. They describe the Nazi-related items as souvenirs or belongings of previous tenants. No comment was made regarding the child pornography.
