The Airports Council International (ACI) World released data showing that global passenger numbers surpassed 2019 levels in 2024, reaching approximately 9.5 billion. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport retains its top spot for the 26th time in 27 years, despite a slight dip from 2019 levels. Dubai International Airport secured the second position for the first time.
Significant growth was observed in US hub airports and the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, due to factors such as expanded visa policies, resumed international flights, and economic recovery. However, challenges remain due to economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions.
While Atlanta is expected to maintain its leading position, ACI World anticipates significant future growth in regions like Asia-Pacific, India, China, and Latin America. ACI World projects that global air traffic will double by 2045.
